Russell Place

The old Russell School was restored for adaptive reuse by Montagno Construction. The 3-story, 30,000 square foot building is set on extremely steep grade. The main parking lot is set across a street and down a long staircase. The solution to this apparent inaccessibility was to design and build a ramp from Highland Street in the rear, which now leads to a raised parking platform on the 3rd floor level. The structure of the parking deck is visible on the left in the photograph above.

Montagno Construction repointed all exterior brick, reworked/refurbished the original exterior tin moldings, replaced all windows, doors, and the roof. All interior surfaces were renovated while maintaining some original woodwork. The project also included all new HVAC, elevator, and electrical.

The building now houses professional offices – including the project architect – and medical
offices.

This major addition and renovation at the rear of Naugatuck’s historic fire department headquarters, consisted of selective demolition, construction of a 5,000 sf, 2-story, 4-bay garage with offices above and complete renovations to the existing structure.

Our work included the complete restoration of the existing historic firehouse with all new windows, new roof, masonry restoration, and new overhead doors to accommodate larger apparatus. Montagno was Construction Manager at Risk for the $6,100,000 addition and renovation of Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Healthcare Center, now called Grimes Center under Yale-New Haven Hospital’s banner. We constructed a 28,000 sf, 4-story addition, joined it to the existing facility, and renovated the existing 46,000 sf.

The 120-bed facility is primarily used for short-term, postacute rehabilitation for stroke, cancer, and trauma patients, and those recovering from cardiac or orthopedic surgery.

All work was performed while the Center remained operational, it was funded by the Archdiocese of Hartford, and the work was completed in just over 1 year.

Montagno Construction was Construction Manager for a new dental clinic in West Hartford, CT. By renovating to the studs an existing 3,900 square foot building, we effectively created a completely new clinical space for the doctor. The project entailed new configuration, all new MEP, new medical gas delivery system, and high end interior finishes – lighting, flooring, casework, windows, and walls.

As part of the new addition, we performed selective demolition, all site work, removal of unsuitable soils, installation of new utilities, and built a new parking lot. This project was completed in nine months.
